SPACE TUNING CONDITIONAL MUSIC
“Space Tuning – Conditional Music is a concept that I’m working on, based on the idea of creating pieces that are related with specific locations. The idea is to invite to listen and develop different aspects of the perception experience mainly related with how sound works in specific spaces, and how we listen to it. The pieces are based on the personal experience of the listener, thinking of sound in terms of diffusion, more than in terms of projection.”

The piece is modified each time according to the characteristics of the space and performance situation but there are some specific permanent aspects that Lucio uses in the pieces:
- SPEAKERS FLYING in the space hanging from balloons filled with helium. He can occasionally use the PA as well, according to the performance situation.
- INTERVENTED RECORDINGS. The recordings are INTERVENTED in the moment of the recording, through simple processes like placing the microphones inside cardboard tubes, or non technically preferred parts of the room. The idea of Intervention gives a crucial importance to the visual aspect of the performance, and the perception of the space.
- BALLOONS FILLED WITH HELIUM transport the flying speakers giving to the unoccupied space of the room a fundamental importance.
- PSYCHOACOUSTICS techniques are used in order to privilege the personal experience of the listener.
- The use of AFFORDABLE TECHNOLOGY and familiar objects like CARDBOARD BOXES and TUBES, VENTILATORS, TUNEBUGS PLACED IN THE ROOMS FURNITURE, WALLS OR OBJECTS, etc.
- A strong privilege to SILENCE, as the best quality situation to listen, see each other, communicate and enjoy the presence.
What I do is MUSIC. My intention is to make enjoyable music.
It’s not an installation, an art project, conceptual or performance art.
